Stabat Mater Ticha Opera

A. GENERAL

Clover Advice Ltd in association with Ticha Opera of Prague produced the spectacular performance of “Stabat Mater Ticha Opera” at the Kypria Festival 2015. “Stabat Mater Ticha Opera” was chosen to be the opening performance of the Festival. It combines the genres of Opera, Mime Theater and Acrobatics.

The connection between these seemingly dissimilar artistic disciplines is revolutionizing opera and acting. It is a truly original performance of high quality. No other similar production exists in the world. Acoustic music meets electronica, while the principles of new circus and physical theater are wed to a spiritual drama, which brings our emotions of love and strong faith.

“Stabat Mater Ticha Opera” was performed in Prague in December 2014 with tremendous success. This playful, modern and yet poetic approach, appealed to all types of audience and engaged those who would otherwise not attend a regular opera performance. As said by the Production company: “the basic aim of the artists is to present opera, mime art and acrobatics to a broader range of contemporary viewers”. The success of the performance in Prague last December suggests that “Stabat Mater Ticha Opera” will also please the local and international audiences of Cyprus, even the most demanding and experienced.

B. TICHA OPERA – THE GROUP

The Group of Ticha Opera was created in 2009 and was initially called the Non-Traditional Opera Studio (NOS). In 2012 the studio began working with the world famous mime and director Radim Vizvary. Under his guidance as director, stage designer and dramaturgist, the expressive language of mime was incorporated into the opera genre. Soon after, Radim Vizravy got the idea of working with “New Cirkus”. The introduction of acrobatics made the concept even more unique. The Company then adopted the current name “Ticha Opera”.

C. LYRICS / TEXT

The text of “Stabat Mater Ticha Opera” is the exact text of the Catholic hymn to Virgin Mary “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”, which is one of the most powerful medieval poems. It meditates on the suffering of Mary during Christ’s crucifixion. It is sung at the liturgy on the memorial of ‘Our Lady of Sorrows’. The hymn has been set to music by many composers. It is a scenic liturgical poem with a strong narrative story. The lyrics of “Stabat Mater” promote universal values and have a timeless appeal to all types of audience.
